Where Are Timberborn Save Files Located?
Timberborn files colonies, maps, and mods in a Documents folder shared across Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Last updated
Mechanistry documents every directory on their official wiki, a rarity worth celebrating. Saves, experimental saves, maps, mods, screenshots, crash reports, and player data each get a named folder under Documents Timberborn on all three desktop systems.
Colonies save as .timber text files, one folder per colony, editable by the brave. Custom maps and mod.io downloads sort into their own trees. Cross platform moves work by copying folders, with paths differing only by OS convention.
Where Timberborn stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Timberborn\Saves
One folder per colony with .timber files inside. Maps, Mods, and Screenshots sort into sibling folders. Use Load game, Browse directory to open it.
~/Documents/Timberborn/Saves
Same internal layout as Windows. Logs live separately at ~/Library/Logs/Mechanistry/Timberborn for bug reports.
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1062090/pfx/
Steam Play prefix for app 1062090 with the same tree inside. Native builds follow the same Documents relative layout.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open the save folder fast?
Open the game, click Load game, then Browse directory. That opens the live folder on every OS with no path memorization. Bug reports want the save plus Player.log from the log location.
What lives beside the saves?
Nothing shared: saves are human readable .timber text, maps and mods sort into sibling folders, crash reports and screenshots beside them. PlayerData holds miscellany best left alone. Copy the Saves tree for migration.
