Where Does TimeTagger Store Data?
Self-hosted TimeTagger stores SQLite user databases in a data directory defaulting to ~/_timetagger.
Last updated
TimeTagger keeps time entries in SQLite files inside a data directory. The default is a _timetagger folder in your home directory, with one database per user under users. The CLI can also sync against hosted or local servers.
The path is configurable at startup. Pass a datadir flag or set the env var to relocate it. Keep backups at the directory level. Single-file copies miss the user mapping the folder provides.
Where TimeTagger stores this, by platform
~/_timetagger (override with --datadir or TIMETAGGER_DATADIR)
SQLite user databases under a users subfolder. Override with datadir flag or TIMETAGGER_DATADIR. Back up the whole directory with the server stopped.
~/_timetagger (override with --datadir or TIMETAGGER_DATADIR)
Same default folder under the Mac home directory. Override the same way. Use Go to Folder to reach it since it sits at the top level of home.
%USERPROFILE%\_timetagger (override with --datadir or TIMETAGGER_DATADIR)
Same default folder under the user profile. Set TIMETAGGER_DATADIR to relocate. Stop the server before copying the directory.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move TimeTagger to a new server?
Stop the server, copy the whole data directory to the new host, and start with the same datadir flag. User databases travel as files. Point the env var at the new path when it differs.
How do I change the TimeTagger data directory?
Set the datadir flag or the TIMETAGGER_DATADIR env var to the path you want. The server creates user databases under a users subfolder there. Use one directory per instance to avoid mixing data.
