Where Is the tint2 Config File?

tint2 reads tint2rc from the tint2 config folder. Panels, launchers, and clocks split into INI style sections.

Last updated

tint2 configures through a single rc file in its XDG config folder. Panel geometry, taskbar, systray, clock, and battery monitors each get a section. The GUI editor writes the same file the hand edits target.

Multi panel setups keep several rc files in the same folder, selected with the config flag at launch. That folder is the complete backup unit. Launcher icons reference desktop files by name, so missing apps show as gaps. Clock formats and battery commands evaluate on each redraw. Executor scripts run on the same interval as clock redraws.

Where tint2 stores this, by platform

Linux
/home/<username>/.config/tint2/tint2rc

Main panel config. Geometry, taskbar, systray, and clock sections. Restart tint2 after edits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate tint2 panels?

Copy the tint2 folder to home config on the new machine. Multiple rc files switch with the config flag for per monitor setups.

How do I apply tint2 changes?

Edit tint2rc and restart tint2. There is no live reload, so the panel only picks up the file on fresh launches.
