Where Are Train Sim World Save Files Located?

Train Sim World versions its save folder per release: TSW5, TSW6 and TSW7 each get their own Documents My Games folder.

Last updated

Train Sim World versions its save folder with each release. The current game, Train Sim World 7, writes to TrainSimWorld7 under Documents\My Games; TSW5 and TSW6 used TrainSimWorld5 and TrainSimWorld6 in the same spot. Saves never carry across versions, though owned DLC does, so each new release starts the career fresh.

Config sits in the same tree under Saved\Config. Steam builds sync through Steam Cloud, while Microsoft Store builds use a WGDK-suffixed Documents folder for config and a packaged wgs folder for saves. Copy with the game closed and match the version folder exactly.

Where Train Sim World stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld7\Saved\SaveGames

TSW7 (Steam App ID 4678800). Earlier releases use TrainSimWorld6 and TrainSimWorld5 folders instead, and versions never share saves. Config sits in Saved\Config beside this. Store builds use a WGDK-suffixed Documents folder plus a DovetailGames package wgs path for saves.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/4678800/pfx/

Steam Play prefix for TSW7 app ID 4678800 (TSW6 is 3656800 and TSW5 is 2967990). The Documents tree above is mirrored inside the prefix, which is where Deck backups should point.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Train Sim World 7 save files?

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld7\Saved\SaveGames, with settings in Saved\Config beside it. There are no spaces in the TrainSimWorld7 name, unlike most My Games folders.

Do Train Sim World saves carry across versions?

No. Each release keeps its own TrainSimWorld folder, so TSW6 saves will not load in TSW7 and vice versa, even though owned DLC carries forward. Finish outstanding scenarios before moving on.

Why do my Game Pass saves differ from Steam?

Store builds split config and saves: config in the WGDK Documents folder, saves in the DovetailGames package wgs tree. Steam keeps both halves together, and the two layouts do not interchange.
