Where Are Trash Day Save Files Located?

Trash Day keeps co-op sessions in save_1.json under LocalLow\OffByOne\Trash, with menu settings in options.json.

Last updated

Trash Day stores everything under %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\OffByOne\Trash. The folder uses the developer name and a shortened game name, so searching Explorer for "Trash Day" turns up nothing. Look for OffByOne instead.

The session lives in save_1.json, with save_1.png as its load-screen thumbnail and a .bak copy of each. achievements.json tracks multi-step Steam achievements, and options.json holds the menu settings. That last file is split into a _cloud block synced by Steam and a _disk block that stays local, which is why resolution and volume can differ between machines while keybinds follow you.

Where Trash Day stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\OffByOne\Trash

save_1.json is the session, save_1.png its thumbnail, and each has a .bak copy. achievements.json sits beside them. options.json holds settings, split into cloud and local blocks.

Linux
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/3314580/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/OffByOne/Trash

Proton prefix for App ID 3314580. Steam Deck players find the same OffByOne\Trash tree inside it.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Trash Day saves on PC?

In %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\OffByOne\Trash. The folder is named after the developer, not the game, so search for OffByOne if you are browsing by hand.

Does Trash Day use Steam Cloud?

Yes. The game uploads save_*.json, save_*.png, achievements.json and the _cloud part of options.json through Steam Remote Storage. The _disk part of options.json stays on the machine.

Can I move a Trash Day lobby to another PC?

Copy the whole Trash folder with the game closed, or let Steam Cloud finish syncing. Copying only save_1.json leaves the thumbnail, achievements and cloud settings behind.

Why did my graphics settings reset after switching PCs?

Resolution, quality, brightness and volume live in the _disk block of options.json, which Steam Cloud does not upload. Set them again on the new machine.
