Where Does Tryton Store Client Config?

Tryton keeps client config in the platform config folder, with business data on the server. Client paths per OS.

Last updated

Tryton splits client from server. The desktop client stores connection profiles, window layouts and preferences locally. Modules, accounts and stock live in the server database.

That split decides every backup. Moving machines means copying the small client config. Disaster recovery means restoring the server database. Confusing the two restores settings without a single invoice.

Where Tryton stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\tryton

Connection profiles and UI preferences. Back up with the client quit. Server address, database name and credentials point back at the server holding real data.

Linux
~/.config/tryton

Same client config role on Linux under XDG config home. Server side data lives in PostgreSQL or SQLite per deploy, outside this tree entirely.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Tryton client settings?

Copy the tryton config folder with the client quit. Window layouts and connection shortcuts travel with it. Business data stays in the server database, so point the restored client at the same server URL.

Where is the actual accounting data?

On the server, in its database backend (commonly PostgreSQL). The client config only holds connection profiles and UI preferences. Back up the database server side; the client folder alone restores no business records.
