Where Does Turso Store Local Databases?
Turso has no central data folder: local databases are plain SQLite files wherever you or --db-file put them.
Last updated
There is no Turso data directory to hunt for. A local Turso database is just a SQLite compatible file sitting wherever you created it, in your project folder or at the path you passed to turso dev.
That simplicity confuses people coming from Postgres or MySQL, who expect a server data directory. With Turso the file is the database. Back it up like any important file and skip the server admin rituals.
Where Turso stores this, by platform
./local.db
Local databases live wherever your code or turso dev --db-file points, commonly a .db file in the project root. The file: URL in your client config is the source of truth for which file is live.
./local.db
Same file based model. Dumping a hosted database with turso db shell <name> .dump and piping it into sqlite3 local.db gives you a local copy to develop against.
.\local.db
Same arrangement on Windows. Keep the working file out of synced folders while the dev server runs, and copy it aside for backups when the server is stopped.
Frequently asked questions
how do i make turso dev persist data
Pass a file explicitly: turso dev --db-file local.db. Without that flag the dev server starts empty and everything evaporates when it stops.
how do i copy my hosted turso database locally
Run turso db shell your-database .dump > dump.sql, then cat dump.sql | sqlite3 local.db. Point your app at file:local.db and develop against the copy.
is there a global turso config folder
The CLI keeps auth state in your home directory, but your data is never there. If you are looking for tables, find the .db file your connection string names instead.
