Where Does Twinkle Tray Store Settings on Windows?

Twinkle Tray settings file for installer and Microsoft Store versions on Windows.

Last updated

Twinkle Tray keeps everything in one JSON file. Installer and Store builds use different roots because Store sandboxing redirects AppData.

Most people run the installer build below. Store users need the longer package path. The setting layout inside the file matches, so migration is a straight copy once the right folder is found.

Where Twinkle Tray stores this, by platform

Windows
%AppData%\twinkle-tray\settings.json

Installer build location. Holds monitors, hotkeys and schedules in one JSON file. Store build uses %LocalAppData%\Packages\38002AlexanderFrangos.TwinkleTray_m7qx9dzpwqaze\LocalCache\Roaming\twinkle-tray-appx\settings.json instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Twinkle Tray?

Close the app and copy settings.json elsewhere with a date in the name. Restoring means replacing the file and launching once to confirm brightness sliders and hotkeys return.

Does the Store version use a different path?

Yes. The Store build sandboxes its data under its package folder with twinkle-tray-appx in the name. Copying the installer path to a Store machine misses everything. Check the LocalCache path below.
