Where Does Typora Store Settings and Themes?

Typora splits settings, themes, and drafts across app data folders. The paths on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Last updated

Typora keeps preferences and themes in its app data folder. On Windows that is %APPDATA%\Typora. On macOS themes live under ~/Library/Application Support/abnerworks.Typora/themes, with the main plist at ~/Library/Preferences/abnerworks.Typora.plist. On Linux it is ~/.config/Typora.

The quickest way to the theme folder is inside the app. Open Preferences, pick Appearance, and press Open Theme Folder. That beats digging through hidden Library or AppData folders by hand, and it always resolves to the right spot for your install.

Where Typora stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Typora

Holds profile data and the themes subfolder. Use the in-app Open Theme Folder button under Preferences and Appearance to jump straight there.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/abnerworks.Typora

Themes sit in the themes subfolder here. Main preferences live one step away in ~/Library/Preferences/abnerworks.Typora.plist. Finder hides ~/Library, so use Go to Folder.

Linux
~/.config/Typora

Holds profile.data plus themes and user images. The folder is hidden, so list it from a terminal or enable hidden files in your file manager.

Frequently asked questions

how do i install a custom typora theme

Open Preferences, go to Appearance, and click Open Theme Folder. Drop the .css file plus any fonts or images there, then restart Typora. The new theme shows up in the Themes menu on next launch.

how do i move typora settings to a new computer

Copy the whole config folder for your OS, listed above. Machine specific values like window bounds travel along, so expect to resize once on the new machine. Themes carry over cleanly since they are plain CSS.
