Where Are Tyranny Save Files Located?

Tyranny files saves in a Saved Games folder on every desktop OS, confirmed cross compatible by Paradox support.

Last updated

Obsidian's Paradox era RPG follows the studio habit of Saved Games over Documents. Each save names itself after your in game choice, making folders browsable by character.

Paradox support confirms the cross platform story explicitly: all versions read the same local files. Cloud saves exist on top, deletable only by hand. Output logs for bug reports live apart in the Steam install folder, not with the saves.

Where Tyranny stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Tyranny

Saves name themselves after in game choices. Mac and Linux use the same relative layout under their own conventions.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Tyranny/Saved Games

Same layout as Windows. Reach it with Finder Go to Folder since Library stays hidden.

Linux
~/.local/share/Tyranny/SavedGames

Same layout as Windows. Fully interchangeable with copies from other systems.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move saves between Steam and GOG?

Copy the Tyranny folder contents across with the game closed. Every version reads local saves identically, so Steam, GOG, and DRM free builds interchange without conversion.

How do I find one specific save?

The save filename carries your in game name, so searching the drive for the character name finds strays. Console command tinkering can corrupt saves in ways support cannot fix, so keep clean backups.
