Where Are UnReal World Save Files Located?

UnReal World saves each character as a folder beside the game itself, with no cloud and no safety net.

Last updated

UnReal World saves each character as a folder named after that character, sitting right beside the game executable. On Steam for Windows that means steamapps\common\UnrealWorld\<CharacterName>, next to the ancestors folder that tracks your lineage. Copying that folder is the entire save system.

There is no in-game save manager and no cloud backup, so manual copies are the only safety net. A crash mid-save can corrupt the folder beyond repair. Players who nurse hundred-hour characters tend to zip the folder after every session, which takes seconds.

Where UnReal World stores this, by platform

Windows
<Steam>\steamapps\common\UnrealWorld\<CharacterName>

One folder per character beside the game binary, plus ancestors for lineage. No cloud sync exists. Copy folders elsewhere for backups; delete a folder to remove that character.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/urw3-Darwin

Standalone builds use ~/Library/Application Support/urw3-Darwin. Steam builds hide saves inside the app bundle at UrW.app/Contents/Resources (right-click, Show Package Contents). Same one-folder-per-character layout.

Frequently asked questions

How should I back up a long-lived UnReal World character?

Copy your character folder plus the ancestors folder to a second drive. A crash can corrupt the live folder, and without Steam Cloud there is nothing else to fall back on. Daily copies are cheap insurance.

How do I delete a character or free up its name?

Delete the folder with that name. The game blocks reuse of an existing character name, and removing the folder frees it. This also clears broken saves that clutter the character list.
