Where Are Unturned Save Files Located?

Unturned keeps players, settings, and servers in %APPDATA%/Unturned, with singleplayer worlds in the install folder.

Last updated

Unturned splits user data two ways. Per-user settings, player saves, server lists, and logs live in %APPDATA%/Unturned. Singleplayer Worlds and hosted Servers folders live in the Steam install tree instead.

Uninstalls only remove the install half, which surprises both ways: Worlds vanish while AppData persists. Back up both trees, and remember Workshop content re-downloads per machine. Server configs live in the install tree too.

Where Unturned stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Unturned

Players, Settings.json, Servers.json, logs. Worlds and Servers folders live in the install tree and need separate backup. Verify integrity never touches AppData.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/304930/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Unturned

Proton prefix for app ID 304930; the AppData tail inside mirrors Windows. Worlds stay in the Linux install tree likewise.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Unturned fully?

Copy %APPDATA%/Unturned (Players, Settings.json, Servers.json) plus the Worlds folder from the install dir. Reinstalls preserve AppData but wipe the install tree.

Can I copy Unturned data between machines?

Yes for Settings.json, Bindings, and Servers.json after each machine's first launch. Players saves depend on Cloud; Worlds and Workshop do not transfer.
