Where Are Vintage Story Save Files Located?

Vintage Story keeps worlds as .vcdbs files in VintagestoryData Saves, with mods and config beside them per OS.

Last updated

Vintage Story stores everything in one data root called VintagestoryData. Worlds sit in Saves as .vcdbs files in SQLite format. Mods sit in Mods. Settings sit in JSON files beside them. Copy the whole root when moving PCs, not just Saves, or macros and privileges stay behind.

Paths shift by platform. Windows uses Roaming AppData. Linux uses .config (Flatpak uses .var). Mac moved to Library Application Support in 1.21 with auto migration. Open the Mod Manager and use Open Mods Folder if you doubt the path on your build.

Where Vintage Story stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\VintagestoryData\Saves

Paste into Run to open. Back up the parent VintagestoryData folder to carry worlds, mods, and macros together. Server data can be split with a custom dataPath flag.

Linux
~/.config/VintagestoryData/Saves

Flatpak builds use ~/.var/app/at.vintagestory.VintageStory/config/VintagestoryData/Saves. Delete a copied clientsettings.json after moving from Windows so paths regenerate for Linux.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/VintagestoryData/Saves

Builds before 1.21.0 used ~/.config/VintagestoryData. Newer builds auto migrated to Library. Mods go in the sibling Mods folder, not the install folder.
