Where Does Virtual Desktop Streamer Install and Save Settings?

Where the Virtual Desktop Streamer installs and where its settings live on PC.

Last updated

Virtual Desktop splits into two halves: the headset app from the store and the free Streamer you install on the PC. The Streamer defaults to C:\Program Files\Virtual Desktop Streamer and must stay there for its shortcuts and firewall rules to behave. Settings live with the Streamer itself.

Media folders are the part people hunt for. The Streamer window lets you set a Videos root plus extra folders, and pasted URLs download into that same tree. Keep the install path boring and configure media from the UI instead of shuffling folders by hand.

Where Virtual Desktop stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files\Virtual Desktop Streamer\

Streamer install root with VirtualDesktop.Streamer.exe. Keep the default path so shortcuts and firewall rules keep working. Use the Streamer window (Options and Videos tabs) to change quality, audio and media folders rather than editing files.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I change streaming quality and the videos folder?

Open the Streamer window on your PC. The Options tab holds bitrate, codec and audio choices, and the Videos tab sets the root media folder. The headset app mirrors most of these, so change them at the PC once.

The Streamer install complains after I moved it. What now?

Reinstall the Streamer to the default path and reboot. Custom install locations break helper shortcuts and the firewall rules the app writes at setup. Your headset purchase stays tied to your store account either way.
