Where Does vMix Store Presets and Recordings?

Where vMix keeps .vmix presets, recordings and settings on Windows.

Last updated

vMix saves each production as a portable .vmix preset wherever you choose at save time, defaulting into Documents. That file references cameras, overlays and media by path. App level options and activation state live separately in ProgramData and the registry.

Because the preset path is user chosen, there is no single folder to memorize. Check Settings, Output for recording targets and keep media in a stable folder tree so presets relink cleanly on a new machine.

Where vMix stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\vMixStorage\

Default home for .vmix presets plus sample content. Actual recording folders are set per preset under Settings, Output and can point anywhere. Copy presets with their media tree together for machine moves.

Frequently asked questions

Where did vMix save my recording?

Open Settings, Output and read the recording and streaming paths. vMix asks where to save at preset creation, so two installs can point anywhere. The .vmix file itself stores relative media links where possible.

How do I move a vMix production to another PC?

Copy the .vmix preset files plus the media folders they reference. Open the preset once on the new PC and relink anything flagged missing before going live. License activation is separate through the app.
