Where Does Voicemeeter Store Settings on Windows?

Voicemeeter settings in AppData and the registry on Windows, plus where exported XML presets go.

Last updated

Voicemeeter keeps live settings in the Windows registry and in its AppData folder. Presets you export yourself are plain XML files wherever you save them, usually Documents.

That split confuses backup attempts. Copying AppData alone misses registry routing. Exporting XML from the menu is the reliable way to move a setup between machines.

Where Voicemeeter stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\VB-Audio\Voicemeeter\

Support files and default state. Live routing also sits in HKCU\Software\VB-Audio\Voicemeeter in the registry. Use Menu > Save Settings to export an XML preset to Documents for transfers. Exact folder name may vary by version (Standard, Banana, Potato).

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Voicemeeter settings?

Open Voicemeeter, use Menu > Save Settings, and store the XML in Documents with a date in the name. Restoring means Menu > Load Settings with the same version running as admin.

Why did my Voicemeeter routing vanish after reinstall?

Fresh installs reset registry keys and device order changes the mapping. Reload your exported XML after setting Windows default devices first, then reboot once. Check the app settings if hardware names shifted.
