Where Does WinDjView Store Settings?
Where WinDjView keeps all settings plus recent files in the registry, and why no ini file will ever exist.
Last updated
WinDjView keeps settings in the Windows registry rather than any ini file. Recent files, bookmarks and view state all live under its per user branch. Installer info sits separately under the machine branch.
That registry design surprises everyone hunting an ini next to the exe. Portable editions behave differently through their launcher wrapper. Export the user branch for backup and import it where the next copy runs. Zoom memory shares the registry branch, so one export covers every view. Export the branch before reinstalling.
Where WinDjView stores this, by platform
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinDjView
Registry branch with settings, recents and view state. No ini exists for standard installs. Export to a reg file for backup.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the WinDjView ini file?
There is none for standard installs. Settings, recents and view state live in the registry branch from this post. Only the separate PortableApps wrapper keeps file based settings under its own Data tree.
How do I clear WinDjView recent files?
Open the registry branch and delete the recent file values while WinDjView stays closed. No text config exists to edit for this job. The installer branch beside it holds file associations, not recents.
