Where Does Wineskin Store Apps and Saves?
Wineskin keeps each Windows app plus its fake C drive inside a portable .app wrapper, defaulting to ~/Applications/Wineskin.
Last updated
A Wineskin wrapper is a Mac app that secretly contains a whole Windows world. The prefix, registry files, and drive_c folder all live inside the .app bundle, which is why wrappers run from anywhere and copy between Macs intact.
New wrappers default to ~/Applications/Wineskin. Saves hide inside drive_c wherever the Windows game puts them, occasionally behind symlinks pointing outside (GOG Galaxy folder tricks are the famous case). Search drive_c first, then follow any symlinks before assuming saves are lost.
Where Wineskin stores this, by platform
~/Applications/Wineskin/<name>.app/drive_c
One .app per game with Contents Resources drive_c inside. Portable by design: moving the bundle moves prefix, registry, and saves.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move a Wineskin game to another Mac?
Copy the whole .app bundle to the same path on the new Mac and launch it. Prefix, registry, and saves travel inside the wrapper together.
Where are saves inside a Wineskin wrapper?
Right click the wrapper, Show Package Contents, and open drive_c. Saves usually sit at the game root or Program Files inside, though some symlink out.
What does the rebuild wrapper button delete?
Rebuilding wipes drive_c and registry files and starts over. It is unrecoverable, so back up the wrapper before touching the rebuild button.
