Where Are Without a Voice Save Files Located?
Without a Voice is a Ren'Py visual novel, so saves live in %APPDATA%\RenPy\WithoutaVoice and the game's saves folder.
Last updated
Without a Voice runs on Ren'Py, and Ren'Py splits its data between the install folder and a per-user directory. On Windows the game folder has game\saves, and the user directory is %APPDATA%\RenPy\WithoutaVoice. On macOS the user side is ~/Library/RenPy/WithoutaVoice, and on Linux it is ~/.renpy/WithoutaVoice.
The per-user folder survives an uninstall, since Steam removes the install directory but leaves AppData alone. Copy it before uninstalling. Steam Cloud is enabled, but a manual copy is still the reliable route if you have modified the game or use a non-Steam build.
Where Without a Voice stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\RenPy\WithoutaVoice
Per-user Ren'Py data that survives a reinstall. The game folder also has a game\saves directory inside the install path.
~/Library/RenPy/WithoutaVoice
The macOS per-user Ren'Py folder. Library is hidden by default, so use Finder's Go to Folder command.
~/.renpy/WithoutaVoice
The Linux per-user Ren'Py folder. The install folder also has game/saves, which is separate from this one.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Without a Voice saves on PC?
In %APPDATA%\RenPy\WithoutaVoice, and in the game\saves folder inside the install directory. Copy both if you are not sure which one holds your latest save.
Does Without a Voice use Steam Cloud?
Yes. Steam Cloud is enabled for the game, so saves usually follow your account once the sync finishes. Check the sync icon before you launch the game on the new machine.
Why are there two save folders?
Ren'Py uses the install folder's game\saves directory and a per-user folder for persistent data. The per-user one is the copy that survives an uninstall. Copying only one of the two can leave persistent data or settings behind.
How do I back up Without a Voice?
Close the game and copy both the RenPy\WithoutaVoice folder and the game\saves folder. Together they hold saves, persistent data and settings.
