Where Does World of Warcraft Save Screenshots?
WoW screenshot folder for retail and classic clients on Windows and Mac, and what to check when shots stop appearing.
Last updated
World of Warcraft saves screenshots inside its own install folder, in a Screenshots directory per client version. Retail uses _retail_, classic uses its own sibling, so the two never mix. Files are timestamped images, ready to copy anywhere.
The usual confusion is the install location. Battle.net lets you move the game, and old guides point at Program Files while your copy lives on another drive. Right click the game in Battle.net and Show in Explorer to land in the right place.
Where World of Warcraft stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_retail_\Screenshots
Replace the install root with your own if Battle.net lives elsewhere. Each client flavor keeps a separate Screenshots folder, so check _classic_era_ for classic shots. The format defaults to TGA unless changed in config.
/Applications/World of Warcraft/_retail_/Screenshots
Same per client layout as Windows. If you installed through Battle.net to a custom spot, use Show in Finder from the Battle.net client to jump straight there.
Frequently asked questions
Where are WoW Classic screenshots saved?
Look for a _classic_era_ or _classic_ sibling next to _retail_ in the same install. Each client keeps its own Screenshots folder, so classic shots never mingle with retail ones.
Print Screen does nothing in WoW, where did my shot go?
The key only works when the game client is focused, and some overlays swallow it. If nothing appears, check the keybind under Key Bindings, then look in the folder again after a fresh shot.
How do I back up WoW screenshots?
Copy the whole Screenshots folder with the install. The files are plain TGA or JPG images with timestamps, so they survive client moves and reinstalls without any conversion.
