Where Does the Yahoo Mail App Store Data?

Yahoo Mail keeps mail and attachments in private storage under platform IDs from Aerogram history on iOS.

Last updated

Mail provider Yahoo runs historically unrelated IDs per platform. Private storage holds login session plus offline mail cache on both. The Aerogram iOS name dates to an old Yahoo mail codename that stuck around in bundle IDs.

Messages live server side with IMAP as fallback. Local data is session plus cached attachments. Fresh login restores the mailbox after reinstall regardless of platform. Filters and folders sync server side, so rules survive any local wipe. Cache holds temporary copies. Server copies stay authoritative. Session data remains private.

Where Yahoo Mail stores this, by platform

Android
/data/data/com.yahoo.mobile.client.android.mail

Private session and mail cache for the verified mobile client package. Mail syncs from Yahoo servers after login.

iOS
/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/<guid>/Documents

GUID container for the Aerogram bundle (App Store ID 577586159). Note the ID differs entirely from Android.

Frequently asked questions

Does Yahoo mail transfer phones?

Log into the same Yahoo account on the new phone. Mail syncs from servers. Local data holds session and offline message cache. Stored files return after login. System settings clear the cache.

Why do Yahoo IDs differ so much?

Android uses a long mobile client string while iOS uses com.yahoo.Aerogram. Same mailbox, unrelated strings from platform history. Confirm in system app info.
