Where Does Adobe Audition Keep Sessions and Cache?
Audition splits autosaves, presets, and media cache across Documents and AppData. The paths that actually fill disks.
Last updated
Adobe Audition spreads files in three places. Session autosaves and templates default to Documents\Adobe\Audition\<version>. Presets and EffectsPresets.xml live under %APPDATA%\Adobe\Audition\<version>. The media and disk cache sits wherever Preferences points, often the system temp drive.
The version number in each path changes per release, so 24.0 in a guide may be 25.x on your machine. Cache is the disk hog. Move Primary cache off the system drive in Preferences, then Media and Disk Cache if scratch space keeps vanishing.
Where Adobe Audition stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Adobe\Audition
Version subfolder varies by release. Autosave .sesx files are small; the media they reference lives in the cache path. Disable stray Untitled Session buildup by checking Auto Save settings.
~/Documents/Adobe/Audition
Waveform temp files clear on clean quit; leftovers after a crash are safe to delete once sessions reopen. Presets mirror the Windows layout under Application Support and Preferences.
Frequently asked questions
how do i free audition disk space
Open Preferences, then Media and Disk Cache, and press Clean to purge stale cache. Point Primary cache at a fast non system drive with free space. The folders refill as you edit, so this is maintenance, not a one time fix.
where are audition autosaves after a crash
Check Preferences, then Auto Save for the live folder, commonly Documents/Adobe/Audition/<version> or the Creative Cloud folder. Multitrack autosaves are small .sesx files, not full media, so also rescue the media cache location.
