Where Does Agenda Store Notes on Mac?

Agenda splits its library between a Containers folder and a Group Containers folder. Copy both to migrate.

Last updated

Agenda keeps its data in two places, and copying only one is the classic migration failure. The main library sits in ~/Library/Containers under com.momenta.agenda.macos, while shared sync state lives in ~/Library/Group Containers under a prefixed twin folder.

Normal moves should use iCloud or Dropbox sync, which rebuilds everything cleanly. Manual copying is the fallback when sync is not an option. Quit Agenda everywhere first, copy both folders to the identical paths on the new Mac, and launch.

Where Agenda stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Containers/com.momenta.agenda.macos

Main library. The companion folder WRBK2Z2EG7.group.com.momenta.agenda.macos in ~/Library/Group Containers must travel with it or the new copy opens empty. Quit Agenda before touching either. Reinstalling alone never resets data.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Agenda to a new Mac?

Prefer iCloud or Dropbox sync and sign in on the new machine. Without sync, quit Agenda and copy both the Containers folder above and its Group Containers twin to the same paths on the new Mac. Exporting single projects as Agenda files loses categories, so avoid it for full moves.

Reinstalling did not reset Agenda. How do I start fresh?

Delete both data folders above with Agenda quit, turn off sync and remove cloud data, trash the app, and restart before reinstalling. The uninstall leaves the library behind by design, which is why a plain reinstall changes nothing.
