Where Does Airmail Store Data on Mac?
Airmail lives in a Group Container on modern macOS. The exact folder plus legacy paths and cache clearing.
Last updated
Airmail stores its database in ~/Library/Group Containers/2E337YPCZY.airmail on macOS High Sierra and later, with per account folders of .eml files inside. Older releases used ~/Library/Containers/it.bloop.airmail2 instead, so the OS version decides which path is live.
Migration is a straight folder copy to the same path on the new Mac, then password re entry per account. IMAP mail re downloads anyway; local and POP accounts make the backup mandatory. For glitches, Clear Message Cache per account beats wiping the whole container.
Where Airmail stores this, by platform
~/Library/Group Containers/2E337YPCZY.airmail
Live data on 10.13 and up; legacy it.bloop.airmail2 on older. Copy the folder to migrate, then re enter passwords. iCloud holds prefs; the container holds the mail cache.
Frequently asked questions
how do i back up airmail
Copy the Group Containers Airmail folder with the app closed. Add iCloud prefs sync for settings. Local and POP mail only exists here, so that copy is the mailbox.
airmail acts broken, what is the safe reset
Use Preferences, Accounts, More, Clear Message Cache for the account. It rebuilds local data from the server. Full container deletion is the last resort for local only setups.
