Where Does AirVPN Eddie Store Profiles?

Where the AirVPN Eddie client keeps profiles and settings on desktop.

Last updated

Eddie keeps its data in the standard per-OS app data path: LocalAppData\Eddie on Windows with default.profile as the headline file, ~/.config/eddie on Linux and macOS. Preferences, server lists and Network Lock options all live there.

Service setups relocate the profile (for example under /etc for systemd units). The forums warn that encrypted profiles and old option names complicate headless moves, so generate an unencrypted profile for daemons and test with eddie-cli before enabling the unit.

Where AirVPN stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Eddie\

Holds default.profile plus logs and keys. Portable mode via portable.txt beside the exe keeps data with the program instead. Close Eddie before copying profiles between machines.

Linux
~/.config/eddie/

Same default.profile layout under XDG config home. Systemd service setups commonly move the profile to /etc/airvpn and point the unit at it. macOS follows the same ~/.config/eddie convention.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Eddie settings to a new machine?

Copy default.profile to the same per-OS path with Eddie closed. Server favorites and routing rules travel with it. Skip copying if the profile uses a master password you no longer know, since encrypted profiles will not open.

Can I run Eddie as a portable app?

Add a portable.txt file next to the executable to keep data beside the program instead of AppData. Command line path options also redirect it, with home and program as shorthand values.
