Where Does the Alexa App Store Recordings and Routines?

Alexa voice recordings, transcripts, routines, and lists live in your Amazon account cloud. Review and delete them under More > Alexa Privacy.

Last updated

The Alexa app is a window into Amazon servers, not a local archive. Voice recordings stream to the cloud the moment an Echo hears the wake word, and transcripts, lists, reminders, and routines all persist under your Amazon account. Deleting them happens in the same cloud through More, then Alexa Privacy.

The phone holds only cache and login state. That is good news for upgrades: signing in restores routines, groups, and skills with nothing to copy. For privacy, pick a retention window for recordings and remember skills keep their own copies that Amazon deletion does not touch.

Where Amazon Alexa stores this, by platform

Android
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.amazon.dee.app/files

Cache and login only; everything durable is server-side. Manage retention at More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data. Skill developers keep separate copies outside Amazon deletion.

iOS
Alexa app storage (Settings > iPhone Storage)

Same cloud model as Android. Recordings, routines, and lists restore on sign-in. Review history at More > Alexa Privacy in the app or the Amazon privacy site.

Frequently asked questions

How do I review what Alexa recorded?

Open the Alexa app, then More, then Alexa Privacy, then Review Voice History. Filter by date, device, or profile, and play or delete entries. Set automatic deletion to 3 or 18 months, or disable saving entirely, from Manage Your Alexa Data.

Where do I create Alexa routines?

Open More, then Routines, tap Plus, and add an event plus actions. Routines run from the cloud against your devices, so they survive phone swaps untouched. Voice ID phrases can personalize triggers per household member.
