Where Does aMule Store Config and Data?

aMule config directory with amule.conf, server lists and credit files on each desktop OS.

Last updated

aMule keeps configuration in a dedicated directory per platform: a dot folder in home on Linux, Application Support on macOS, and Roaming AppData on Windows. The headline file is amule.conf with ports, paths and limits, joined by server lists, IP filters and the credit file that tracks upload standing.

Temp and incoming folders live outside this tree wherever you pointed them, which splits backups in two. The config directory migrates identity and settings while the download folders carry the actual payload. Copy both halves with aMule closed, since running instances rewrite state on exit.

Where aMule stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.aMule

Headline file is amule.conf with ports and paths. Siblings include server.met, ipfilter.dat and clients.met credit data. Temp and Incoming directories sit wherever configured, outside this tree.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/aMule

Same interior layout as Linux. Reach it through Go to Folder in Finder, since Library stays hidden from normal browsing.

Windows
%APPDATA%\aMule

Same file set as the other platforms. Temp and Incoming folders default elsewhere on first run, so confirm their paths in preferences before assuming the backup is complete.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move amule to a new computer

Copy the whole config directory with aMule closed. amule.conf, server.met, addresses and the clients.met credit file travel together, so one folder copy migrates identity, servers and download credit at once.

how do i reset amule settings

Delete amule.conf with aMule closed and relaunch. Factory defaults regenerate, clearing broken ports, stuck paths and bad UI states. Server lists and credits live in sibling files, so a config reset never wipes those.
