Where Are Screenshots Stored on Android?
Screenshot folders on Pixel versus Samsung phones, and the setting that moves them.
Last updated
Stock Android stores screenshots in Internal storage/Pictures/Screenshots, deliberately apart from camera photos so backup apps can treat them separately. The compatibility standard even forbids putting them under DCIM.
Samsung kept them in DCIM/Screenshots for years, which is why older Galaxy shots backed up as if they were camera photos. One UI 5.1 and later lets you choose the folder in Settings under screenshots and screen recorder options. Moving old files by hand works, but new shots keep using the old spot until that setting changes.
Where Android stores this, by platform
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots/
Stock AOSP and Pixel default (Files app: Internal storage > Pictures > Screenshots). Samsung legacy used /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Screenshots instead; One UI 5.1+ adds a chooser for screenshots and recordings separately. Exact menu wording varies by One UI version.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my screenshots back up as if they were camera photos?
Because they sit in DCIM/Screenshots, the Samsung legacy spot that backup apps treat as camera uploads. Move them to Pictures/Screenshots and change the One UI save setting so new shots land there too.
How do I change where Samsung saves screenshots?
Open Settings, Advanced features, Screenshots and screen recorder, and pick the save location (One UI 5.1 and newer). Choose Pictures/Screenshots to match stock Android and keep backups separable.
