Where Are Voice Recordings Stored on Android?
Voice recorder folders on Pixel, Samsung and Xiaomi phones, and why Pixel hides them.
Last updated
Samsung and Xiaomi recorders write browsable files: Samsung uses Internal storage/Recordings/Voice Recorder (*.m4a, movable to SD in app settings), Xiaomi uses MIUI/sound_recorder on old builds and a scoped Android/data path on Android 11 and later. Legacy Samsung spots like Sounds/ and Voice Recorder/ still appear on old models.
Pixel Recorder is the exception: recordings sit in app private storage, invisible to file managers without root. Export through the Share sheet or Drive backup, or enable the access recordings option so future recordings also land in a shared Recordings folder. Always check the recorder Settings storage screen before trusting any guide path.
Where Android stores this, by platform
/storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Voice Recorder/
Samsung current default (*.m4a, browsable, SD movable in Settings). Xiaomi legacy MIUI/sound_recorder (plus call_rec/); Android 11+ uses Internal storage/Android/data/com.android.soundrecorder (scoped, use MTP or in app export). Pixel Recorder is app private (/data/data/.../recordings, root only) with Share/Drive export. OEM paths vary by model.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I find my Pixel recordings in the Files app?
Pixel Recorder stores them in app private storage that file managers cannot see. Share individual recordings out or back up to Drive; newer versions can also mirror future recordings to a shared folder on request.
Where are Xiaomi call recordings?
In MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec on older builds, or the scoped soundrecorder data path on Android 11 and later (browse via MTP to a PC). HyperOS also surfaces them through the Phone app Recents entries.
