Where Does Atlas Store Your Profile?

The Atlas profile folder on Mac, what lives inside its Chromium-style host directory, and the beta path to check.

Last updated

Atlas is a Mac-only browser from OpenAI, and it keeps the standard Chromium layout inside an OpenAI application support folder. The profile you use every day sits in a host directory with the familiar History and Bookmarks SQLite files, so anyone who has poked around Chrome will feel at home.

There are two roots worth knowing. The release build uses com.openai.atlas and the beta uses com.openai.atlas.beta, and only one of them will show fresh timestamps. Check both when history looks stale, then work with the one that was clearly written today.

Where Atlas stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/com.openai.atlas/browser-data/host

The host folder holds the active profile: History, Bookmarks, and the rest of the Chromium state. If this folder looks old, check the beta root instead. Finder hides Library, so reach it with Go to Folder, and quit Atlas first because the browser locks its databases while running.

Frequently asked questions

where is the Atlas browser history file

Open the host folder for your install and look for the file named History, a SQLite database in Chromium format. Copy it only while Atlas is fully quit, since the running browser holds a lock on it. The beta build keeps its own History under com.openai.atlas.beta.

is ChatGPT Atlas available on Windows

No. Atlas launched as a Mac-only browser for Apple silicon Macs on recent macOS versions, so there is no Windows profile folder to go looking for. If you need the same data on a PC, export bookmarks to HTML from the Bookmark Manager instead.

how do I back up my Atlas profile

Quit Atlas, then copy the whole host folder to external storage or another Mac with the same Atlas build installed. Restoring means putting the folder back in place before launching. Bookmarks alone travel more simply through the Bookmark Manager export option.
