Where Does Audacious Store Settings and Playlists?

Audacious keeps config plus internal playlists under ~/.config/audacious. The files and the export distinction.

Last updated

Audacious stores its config at ~/.config/audacious/config with internal playlists as .audpl files in a playlists subfolder. Those internal lists save automatically, and closing one in the UI deletes its file for good.

Skins live in ~/.local/share/audacious/Skins with user plugins in a Plugins sibling. Export through Playlist, then Export for portable .m3u copies; the internal .audpl format is not meant for sharing. Numbered audacious-2 style twins cover second instances.

Linux
~/.config/audacious

config plus playlists/ with .audpl files inside. Skins and plugins under ~/.local/share/audacious. Never hand edit the internal playlists; export instead.

Frequently asked questions

how do i save an audacious playlist as m3u

Use Playlist, Export with an .m3u extension typed in. The internal .audpl files in the config folder are automatic state, not shareable playlists.

audacious playlist vanished after closing it, why

Closing a playlist in the UI deletes its .audpl file permanently. That is the design. Export anything worth keeping before closing.
