Where Are Baba Is You Save Files Located?

Baba Is You save and config folders on Windows, macOS and Linux, plus the SettingsC.txt file that holds your options.

Last updated

Baba Is You keeps saves and settings together in a folder named Baba_Is_You inside the usual per OS app data location. The Steam version syncs through Steam Cloud, so a manual copy is mainly useful before reinstalls or moving between computers.

Settings live in SettingsC.txt beside the save data. Copy the whole folder with the game closed. Single files restore oddly because progress and options reference the same directory.

Where Baba Is You stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Baba_Is_You\

Paste into Run or Explorer. SettingsC.txt sits here beside saves. Copy the full folder to back up progress and options together.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Baba_Is_You

Use Finder Go to Folder. Same layout as Windows. Steam Cloud can overwrite a manual restore, so pause sync when moving files.

Linux
~/.local/share/Baba_Is_You

Follows XDG data dir (XDG_DATA_HOME/Baba_Is_You when set). Proton is not involved here since the game has a native Linux build.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Baba Is You progress?

Close the game and copy the entire Baba_Is_You folder elsewhere with a date in the name. Restoring means putting that folder back before launching, with Steam Cloud paused until the save loads once.

Where is the Baba Is You settings file?

SettingsC.txt sits in the same Baba_Is_You folder as saves. It holds input and display choices. Delete it to reset options while leaving level progress alone, then relaunch once.
