Where Does Bongo Cat Store Save Data?

Bongo Cat keeps its local save data in a single LocalLow folder, and Steam Cloud does not back it up for you.

Last updated

Bongo Cat started as a free desktop toy you tap along with, and it grew after its March 2025 release into one of the most played free titles on Steam. All of its local data lives in one small folder: Irox Games\BongoCat under LocalLow, the sort of location most people never see because AppData is hidden by default.

That folder holds the game's saved state, and Steam Cloud does not cover it. On a machine you care about, copy it before reinstalling Windows or clearing out AppData. There is no server-side restore waiting behind a login, so the folder is the backup.

Where Bongo Cat stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Irox Games\BongoCat

The game's local save data. AppData is hidden by default, so paste the path into the Run dialog rather than browsing to it. Steam Cloud is not listed for this game, so treat this folder as the only copy.

Linux
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3419430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Irox Games/BongoCat

Steam Deck and Linux run the Windows build through Proton for app ID 3419430, so the same BongoCat folder appears inside the prefix.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bongo Cat have Steam Cloud saves?

No. PCGamingWiki lists the game without Steam Cloud, so local progress stays on the machine that made it. Copy the BongoCat folder out of LocalLow before a reinstall if you want to keep anything.

What happens if I delete the Bongo Cat save folder?

You lose the local saved state, and the folder is rebuilt with defaults on the next launch. Back it up first if you care, because there is no cloud restore path to fall back on.

How do I move Bongo Cat to a new PC?

Copy the BongoCat folder from %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Irox Games on the old machine into the same spot on the new one, with the game closed. Without Steam Cloud, the manual copy is the only route.
