Where Are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Save Files Located?
Modern Warfare 4 keeps campaign saves in the shared Call of Duty players folder under LocalAppData, not a folder named after the game.
Last updated
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 does not get its own save directory. It uses the same Call of Duty HQ tree as Warzone and the earlier Modern Warfare games, so everything lands in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Activision\Call of Duty\players\<account-id>. The folder is shared, and the account id inside it is a number rather than your Steam ID.
The shared tree is the part people miss. Searching AppData for a Modern Warfare 4 folder turns up nothing, and deleting the players folder to clear one game's settings takes the others with it. PCGamingWiki lists no separate config path, so this is also the tree to copy before a reinstall.
Where Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Activision\Call of Duty\players\<account-id>
Campaign checkpoints and local settings for every current Call of Duty title. The numeric account id varies per player, and the same folder is used by Warzone and the earlier Modern Warfare games.
<SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/4435490/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Activision/Call of Duty/players/<account-id>
Steam Play prefix for App 4435490, the Modern Warfare 4 campaign entry. PCGamingWiki documents this prefix rather than the parent Call of Duty launcher's.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Modern Warfare 4 saves on PC?
In %LOCALAPPDATA%\Activision\Call of Duty\players\<account-id>. There is no separate Modern Warfare 4 folder, because the game shares the Call of Duty HQ tree with Warzone and the older Modern Warfare titles.
Does Modern Warfare 4 use Steam Cloud?
Steam's store page lists no Steam Cloud support, and PCGamingWiki leaves the cloud field blank. Campaign checkpoints and settings stay on the PC, while multiplayer progress is tied to your Call of Duty account.
Can I delete the players folder to reset my settings?
It resets more than Modern Warfare 4. The folder is shared by every current Call of Duty title on the PC, so copy it first and remove only the files you are sure about.
Why is the save folder named Call of Duty?
Modern Warfare 4 runs inside Call of Duty HQ, the launcher that also hosts Warzone and the earlier Modern Warfare games. The folder keeps the launcher's name, not the campaign's.
