Where Does Boot Camp Store Windows Drivers?

Boot Camp drivers and support files live in Application Support, downloaded by the Assistant on demand.

Last updated

Boot Camp support software lives in Application Support on the Mac side, downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant when you set up Windows. The bundle holds drivers for trackpad, Wi-Fi, graphics, and function keys.

Windows itself knows nothing about where the bundle came from. Reinstalling Windows wipes the drivers while the Mac-side copy survives, which is exactly the recovery path. Keep a copy of the support software outside both partitions before wiping either side.

Where macOS stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/BootCamp

Downloaded Windows support software (drivers) for Boot Camp installs. Re-download through the Assistant when the Windows side loses devices.

Frequently asked questions

My Windows side lost trackpad and Wi-Fi drivers. Where do I get them?

Run Boot Camp Assistant again and download the support software. Apple refreshes the driver bundle over time, and a fresh copy fixes most broken-device cases.
