Where Does Boundless Store Borrowed Books?

Boundless library loans, offline ebooks and audiobooks in app storage.

Last updated

Boundless (the Baker and Taylor library app, successor to Axis 360) keeps loans in app private storage with DRM attached. Borrowed ebooks and audiobooks download for offline reading inside the app and expire on their own when the loan ends.

Nothing here is a file you manage. Your holds, checkouts and history belong to the library account, while the audio and text caches are per device and encrypted. Returning a title early or letting it lapse removes the local copy. Sideloaded books are not a feature: the shelf only shows library loans.

Where Boundless stores this, by platform

Android
App-private storage (loans downloaded in-app)

Sign in with your library card, borrow, then download per title for offline. Expired loans clean themselves up. Reinstalling drops offline copies; the account shelf restores the loan list.

iOS
App sandbox (loans downloaded in-app)

Same loan model on iPhone and iPad. Downloads play and read offline until expiry. Offloading preserves the account; deleting wipes every cached book and forces fresh downloads.

Frequently asked questions

can I copy Boundless books as EPUB or MP3 files

No. Loans are DRM locked inside the sandbox and expire with the checkout. For permanent copies buy the title elsewhere. The app is a loan reader, not a file manager.

why did my downloaded book disappear

The loan expired or was returned, which deletes the local files by design. Check the due date on your shelf and borrow again. Storage cleaners that clear app data cause the same symptom early.
