Where Does Palace Store Borrowed Books?
Palace library app loans, offline books and Adobe DRM activation on device.
Last updated
Palace (the Lyrasis open source library app, built on SimplyE) stores borrowed ebooks and audiobooks inside its sandbox with expiring DRM. The catalog, holds and checkouts sync to the library account. The files do not leave the app.
First run matters more than it looks. Adobe DRM activation on that device authorizes the downloads, so a factory reset without deauthorization can burn one of your limited activations. Keep the app updated through the library, since Palace distributions vary per library system and sideloaded builds drift.
Where Palace Project stores this, by platform
App-private storage (loans downloaded in-app)
Borrow through your library catalog, download per title for offline. Holds and history restore on sign in; audio and text caches do not. Deauthorize Adobe DRM before abandoning a device.
App sandbox (loans downloaded in-app)
Same account synced shelf on iPhone and iPad. Offline books play and read until the due date removes them. Deleting the app clears every download at once.
Frequently asked questions
how do I move Palace loans to a new phone
Install your library Palace build, sign in, and redownload current loans. History and holds follow the account. Anything downloaded on the old phone stays there; there is no file to copy across.
why does Palace ask for Adobe authorization
Protected EPUB loans need per device Adobe DRM activation. Authorize once per device and keep count of activations. Wiping without deauthorizing can strand an activation you then must reset with support.
