Where Does Box Drive Store Local Files?

Box Drive local sync root and cache folders on Windows and macOS for cloud files on demand file sync.

Last updated

Box Drive mirrors cloud files into a local root. Windows defaults to C:\Users\you\Box with placeholders that fetch on open. macOS uses ~/Library/CloudStorage/Box-Box under the File Provider layout. That root is the folder to back up.

A cache folder beside the root holds offline copies and upload staging. Clearing it refetches from cloud on demand. Check Settings when the root moved during setup. Enterprise installs sometimes relocate it to another drive. Shared folders follow the same root. Selective sync trims local disk use.

Where Box Drive stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Box

Default sync root with on demand placeholders. Offline files download fully here. Confirm in Drive settings when the folder moved.

macOS
~/Library/CloudStorage/Box-Box
