Where Does Boxy SVG Store Settings and Projects?

Boxy SVG config on Windows, macOS and Linux, plus where SVG files and backups actually go.

Last updated

Boxy SVG is an Electron app, so settings follow the usual Chromium user data pattern per OS. Your drawings live wherever you saved them, not inside the config folder.

Recent files and window state sit beside prefs. Copying the config folder moves options between machines. Artwork needs its own backup. Exact folder casing may vary by version.

Where Boxy SVG stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Boxy SVG\

Prefs, session and GPU cache. Projects stay in Documents or your chosen folder as .svg. Copy this folder with the app closed to move settings.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Boxy SVG/

Same role as Windows AppData. Use Go to Folder in Finder. SVGs remain where you saved them. Check the app settings if the folder name differs after an update.

Linux
~/.config/Boxy SVG/

Follows XDG config home. Some distros use a lowercased variant, so list ~/.config for boxy entries if this exact path is missing. Artwork stays in your home folders.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my Boxy SVG files?

Wherever you saved them as .svg, usually Documents. The config folder only holds prefs and recents. Search for .svg when a drawing seems lost.

How do I reset Boxy SVG settings?

Quit the app and rename the Boxy SVG config folder with a date suffix, then relaunch. Defaults return. Delete the renamed copy once tools behave.
