Where Are Braid Save Files Located?

Where Braid plus its Anniversary Edition keep profiles on each OS, and why the two editions never share folders.

Last updated

Braid keeps profiles in Roaming app data on Windows with separate trees per edition. The original uses a plain folder while the Anniversary remake adds a comma suffixed name. Mac and Linux follow their own user folders for the original only.

Steam Cloud mirrors each edition under its own AppID, which keeps restores from crossing over. The Anniversary remake stays Windows only on Steam. Copy the edition folder whole with the game closed. Puzzle completions share the profile files, so copy each edition whole.

Where Braid stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Braid

Edition folder with profiles plus settings inside. Anniversary adds a comma suffixed sibling that never mixes. Cloud mirrors per AppID.

macOS
~/Library/Preferences/Braid

Original only prefs folder under user Preferences. Broken on modern MacOS past 32 bit support. Anniversary has no Mac port.

Linux
~/.Braid

Original only dot folder outside XDG rules. Copy the folder between machines for moves. Anniversary has no Linux port.

Frequently asked questions

Do Braid and Anniversary Edition share one save folder?

No. The original writes under a plain Braid folder while the remake writes under a comma suffixed Anniversary folder. Cloud mirrors use different AppIDs too. Back up each edition separately for full coverage.

How do I fix Braid Anniversary display settings?

Open the variables file in the Anniversary Roaming folder and adjust the fullscreen mode value with the game closed. The original keeps different option names in its own folder. Keep a copy before editing text flags.
