Where Does Canon IJ Scan Utility Save Scans?
Default save folders for Canon IJ Scan Utility on Windows and Mac, plus how to change them per scan type.
Last updated
Canon IJ Scan Utility uses boring defaults, which is good for finding files. On Windows it points at Documents. On Mac it points at Pictures for the Lite build and Documents for multi page PDFs, depending on the scan type picked in Settings. Each scan type keeps its own Save in path.
The date subfolder option catches people out. When ticked, the app creates a dated folder inside your chosen location, so the file is one level deeper than expected. Check for a 20XX_01_01 folder before assuming a scan failed. The Application Settings section below controls whether Explorer or Finder opens after saving.

%userprofile%\Documents
Default is the Documents folder, per scan type. Open Settings to see each type. Date subfolders look like 20XX_01_01 inside the chosen path.
~/Pictures (Lite) or ~/Documents
IJ Scan Utility Lite defaults to Pictures. Full IJ Scan Utility document scans default to Documents on newer macOS. Change it under Settings then Save in.
