Where Does Canto Store Feeds and Config?

Canto RSS daemon config, feeds database, socket and log files.

Last updated

Canto pairs a daemon with a curses client over a Unix socket. Config, feeds shelf, pid and logs share one XDG folder. A dir flag relocates the whole set.

Plugins layer packaged defaults under lib with user copies beside config. The socket supports TCP mode through address flags for remote setups.

Where Canto stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/canto/conf

Daemon JSON config auto created on first run. Feeds shelf, socket, pid and logs share the same XDG dir. Plugins overlay packaged defaults. Relocatable via dir flag.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Canto?

Copy the whole canto config dir with daemon and client stopped. It holds conf, feeds shelf, socket and logs. Restoring means putting the dir back before starting the daemon.

Is there a feeds.opml file?

No. Feeds live inside the conf and the gzipped feeds shelf. OPML style sidecars do not exist in this generation. Manage feeds through the remote tool or client instead.
