Where Does CapCut Store Draft Projects?

CapCut draft projects folder on Windows and macOS, how draft_content.json maps edits, and where to repoint the save path.

Last updated

CapCut keeps each draft as a folder named with a draft ID under a com.lveditor.draft tree. Inside are JSON timeline files plus an assets folder with local copies of clips. Exports go wherever you point them and never touch drafts.

The default roots differ by OS and the path is user movable, so confirm yours in Settings before digging. Open Settings > Draft, read the Save To row, and back up whole draft folders rather than single JSON files that reference each other. Template mirror files beside the timeline aid recovery after crashes.

Where CapCut stores this, by platform

Windows
%localappdata%\CapCut\User Data\Projects\com.lveditor.draft

Paste into Explorer. Each draft ID subfolder holds draft_content.json plus assets. Change the root under Settings > Draft > Save To and let CapCut migrate.

macOS
~/Movies/CapCut/User Data/Projects/com.lveditor.draft

Same internal layout as Windows. The sister app JianYing uses ~/Movies/JianyingPro with the identical com.lveditor.draft leaf.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move CapCut drafts to a new PC?

Close CapCut, copy the com.lveditor.draft folders to the same path on the new machine, and relaunch. Keep the assets subfolders with the JSON files or clips go offline.

Where are exported CapCut videos?

Wherever you chose in the export dialog, not in the drafts tree. Check the export path history in Settings if a finished video is missing.
