Where Does Caprine Store Sessions and Settings?

Caprine keeps its Messenger session in the standard Electron data folder, so wiping it logs you out on every OS.

Last updated

Caprine is an Electron wrapper around Messenger, and it stores the login session exactly where Electron apps always do: a folder named after the app in the platform data directory. Your messages stay on Meta's servers.

That makes the local folder a logout button in disguise. Delete it with Caprine closed and the next launch asks for credentials fresh. It also resets notification and theme tweaks, which is the point when they misbehave.

Where Caprine stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Caprine

Session cookies, settings and cache in one tree. Quit from the tray first, since Caprine minimizes there instead of exiting. The spellchecker dictionaries sit in a dictionaries subfolder.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Caprine

Same layout. Use Go to Folder in Finder. Removing the folder clears every logged in account at once, handy when switching between work and personal profiles.

Linux
~/.config/Caprine

XDG home equivalent with the same internals. The app respects dark mode and tray settings stored here, so a reset restores defaults for those too.

Frequently asked questions

how do i log out of all accounts in caprine

Quit Caprine completely and delete its data folder for your OS. Relaunching shows the login screen with no trace of the old session. In app logout works too but leaves cache behind.

where are caprine chat histories stored

They are not stored locally in any useful sense. Caprine shows Messenger from the server, and the local cache holds fragments at best. Search Messenger itself for old messages.

can i run two caprine accounts at once

Only with separate userData directories, launched with a custom path flag. Most people find the web plus the app simpler than juggling two data folders.
