Where Does YakYak Store Sessions and Settings?

YakYak keeps its Hangouts session in the Electron userData folder, so deleting it signs you out everywhere.

Last updated

YakYak is an Electron client, and it stores the login session where Electron clients always do: a folder carrying the app name in the platform data directory. Conversations themselves stay on Google's servers.

The local folder is effectively a logout switch. Remove it with YakYak closed and the next launch returns to the sign in screen. Notification and window preferences reset along with it.

Where YakYak stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\yakYak

Session cookies and settings. Note the mixed case name. Quit from the tray before deleting, since YakYak minimizes there instead of exiting.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/yakYak

Same mixed case folder name. Go to Folder in Finder jumps straight there. Clearing it logs out every account at once.

Linux
~/.config/yakYak

XDG equivalent. Conversations re-sync from the server on next login, so nothing readable is lost by a reset.

Frequently asked questions

how do i sign out of yakyak completely

Quit YakYak fully and delete its data folder for your OS. The next launch shows a clean login screen with no remembered accounts.

where is yakyak chat history stored

On Google's servers, not on disk. The local folder holds session tokens and cache fragments. Search Hangouts or Google Chat for old messages instead.
