Where Does Celeste Store Mods?
Celeste mods go in a Mods folder inside the game install, next to Saves. Everest loader paths for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Last updated
Celeste keeps mods and saves side by side inside its own install directory. Mods live in Celeste/Mods as .zip files or unpacked folders, one per mod. Saves sit next door in Celeste/Saves as numbered .celeste files.
The Mods folder does not exist on a fresh install. Create it yourself (or let the Olympus installer do it) and drop files in. Everest reads the folder at launch, so no launcher step is needed beyond starting the game. Map packs are the heaviest mods, so a slow load screen usually means one large collab pack.
Where Celeste stores this, by platform
<SteamLibrary>\steamapps\common\Celeste\Mods
Create it if missing and drop mod zips inside. Saves sit beside it in <install>\Saves. Everest installs its files into this same directory, so point the installer here.
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Celeste/Mods
Same install relative spot on Mac. The Olympus installer finds it automatically. Saves mirror it at Celeste/Saves in the same parent.
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Celeste/Mods
Native Linux build uses the identical layout. Run the Linux Everest installer script against this directory, not the Proton prefix.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Everest to use mods?
Yes. Grab Everest from everestapi.github.io and run its installer against your Celeste folder first. Vanilla Celeste ignores the Mods folder completely.
How do I back up saves and mods together?
Copy both folders with the game closed. Saves are .celeste files in Celeste/Saves and mods are zips or folders in Celeste/Mods. One without the other either loses progress or breaks maps.
