Where Does Chunky Store Comics on iPad?

Chunky iPad library folder, Files app access and OPDS streaming from home servers.

Last updated

Chunky keeps a self organising local library on the iPad: whatever you import (CBZ, CBR, CBT, PDF) downloads into the app for offline reading. Cloud imports from iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive are copies, not links. Deleting inside Chunky can delete the cloud original too, since sync runs both ways.

Power features need Pro. Shared Windows or Mac folders, FTP and SFTP, ComicStreamer, Calibre and Ubooquity libraries, and the built in web and WebDAV server all sit behind the upgrade. OPDS streaming from Komga works through the Calibre/Ubooquity/OPDS entry, though read progress does not sync back to the server.

Local comics folder reachable in Files app for import and export (added for rar5 era builds). Also import via iTunes File Sharing or the in-app browser. Pro adds SMB shares, FTP/SFTP, OPDS catalogs and a WebDAV server for copying in and out.

Frequently asked questions

do iCloud comics in Chunky use iPad storage

Yes. Chunky downloads them into its local library so they read offline. The cloud copy remains as backup, but both sides count toward storage. Delete with care: removing inside Chunky can remove the iCloud original.

how do I stream from Komga in Chunky

Add the server under the cloud menu as Calibre/Ubooquity/OPDS with the /opds/v1.2/catalog URL, username and password. Tap to stream pages or use the blue button to download whole issues. Mark read manually in Komga afterward.
