Where Are Clannad Save Files Located?

Where Clannad keeps numbered slots and settings inside its install folder, and why AppData holds nothing.

Last updated

Clannad keeps saves inside its own install folder rather than any user directory. Numbered slot files plus a global file share a SAVEDATA tree with settings files beside them. This layout predates modern user folder conventions and never moved.

There is no native Mac or Linux port, so Deck builds view the same tree through their prefixes. Protected install paths trigger VirtualStore redirection that hides live files from manual browsers. Copy the SAVEDATA folder whole with the game closed. Route flags and after story unlocks share the slot files, so copy them whole.

Where Clannad stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\CLANNAD\SAVEDATA

Install folder saves with numbered slots, global file and settings beside them. No AppData copy exists. Watch for VirtualStore redirection on protected paths.

Frequently asked questions

I searched AppData and found no Clannad saves. Where are they?

Open the SAVEDATA folder inside the Steam install tree for Clannad. Numbered slot files plus the global file sit there together. Installs under Program Files may redirect writes to the VirtualStore when run without admin rights.

How do I back up Clannad settings separately?

Back up the settings files beside the slots in the same SAVEDATA folder. The English and Japanese configs use different names, so keep both. Slots without their settings file load with wrong text options.
