Where Does Clipchamp Store Projects and Cache?

Clipchamp local package cache on Windows, and why projects themselves live in the cloud.

Last updated

Clipchamp is a Store app, so its local footprint lives in its package folder under LocalAppData Packages. That folder holds cache, session state and settings, following the standard Store app pattern with a publisher suffixed family name.

Projects themselves do not live there. Clipchamp saves timelines to the Microsoft cloud tied to your account, which is why reinstalls and machine switches keep every project while wiping the local package changes nothing. Source clips stay wherever you imported them from, so archive those separately.

Where Clipchamp stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.ClipchampVideoEditor_8wekyb3d8bbwe

LocalState holds the working cache. Projects sync from the cloud workspace, and source media stays in its original folders. Clear the package only for troubleshooting, never for backup purposes.

Frequently asked questions

where are my clipchamp projects stored

Nowhere on disk by default. Clipchamp projects save to your Microsoft cloud workspace, so the local package holds cache and session data only. Export finished videos to a chosen folder instead of hunting the package for project files.

how do i back up a clipchamp project

Use Clipchamp's export flow to a folder you choose, in a resolution you pick. Exports are the portable artifact. The local package cache contains no usable project copy, so it cannot substitute for exporting.
