Where Does Cxbx-Reloaded Store Saves and Data?

Where Cxbx-Reloaded keeps its data folder, EmuDisk saves and EEPROM.

Last updated

Cxbx-Reloaded centers on a data folder with EmuDisk partitions, EmuMu memory units, EEPROM.bin and SymbolCache inside. The GUI offers three homes for it: Roaming AppData, the exe directory, or a custom path you pick.

Partition folders hold the actual saves while the cache partitions speed loads. Clearing cache partitions from the menu is safe maintenance; wiping the save partitions is not. Check the active location in settings before copying anything.

Where Cxbx-Reloaded stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Cxbx-Reloaded\

Default data root with EmuDisk, EmuMu, EEPROM.bin, keys.bin and SymbolCache. Change it under Settings data location options. Only one instance may hold the folder at a time. Back up whole for migrations.

Frequently asked questions

AppData or exe folder: which data location is active?

Open Settings and switch the data location between AppData, executable directory and custom. Only one copy can run at a time, and the app locks the active folder so a second instance errors instead of corrupting saves.

How do I back up Cxbx-Reloaded saves?

Back up the whole data folder: EmuDisk partitions with saves, EEPROM.bin, keys.bin and SymbolCache. Restore it to the same data location choice on the new PC before launching any title.
